A drone resembling an Iranian Mohajer-6 was posted on a US Central Command (CENTCOM) social media account on 5th April 2026. The video is notable not for the destruction of the drone, but for what it indicates about the state of Iran’s drone capabilities at the start of April 2026, over a month into the war between the US and Israel against Iran.

A successful export for Iran’s global drone industry from Sudan to Venezuela, the Mohajer-6 is somewhat comparable to the US MQ-1 Predator in terms of capability though resembles UAVs like the Selex ES Falco.
It has frequently been seen in conflicts throughout the region and has been reported to have been used by Russia in the Ukraine war. The Mohajer-6 is a twin-boom pusher prop UAS with a high wing, making it the likely candidate for the drone destroyed in the video.

Mohajer-6 Video Potential Indications
What is notable about Iranian drones like the Mohajer-6 is that these drones are usually operates line of sight with their ground control station. That means that the drone has to be launched by a crew, controlled by an antenna that maintains communication with the drone, then recovered again at the end of the mission. To be able to do this under what the US has claimed to be “total air superiority” speaks to some inconsistencies in this claim.
Unlike the more well known Shahed-136, the Mohajer-6 is not a one-way attack drone and is recovered after a mission to be used again. As nothing is known beyond the video depicting this aircraft, that a drone like this could be operated at all over water from what could be estimated as a possible 200 km but more likely 120 km range speaks to resiliency of Iranian capabilities despite at the time of this video over a month of conflict and bombardment.
US CENTCOM seems to attach the phrase “indiscriminately target civilians” to many posts with videos depicting Iranian drones. This is again unlikely with the Mohajer-6, which is an ISR and light strike platform with Qaem TV/IR guided missiles on either two or four hard-points depending on the variant. Evidence of possible use of other types of munitions have been seen as well as suspicion that the Mohajer-6 might be used for electronic warfare support or communication relay.
Speculative State of Iranian Drone Capabilities
With the US bringing ground forces into the region and a suspected Special Forces raid in the Isfahan region, the need to secure Iran’s vast 1,100 mile coastline could be a possible mission for the IRGC‘s extensive ISR capable drone fleet. The drone could also serve as an intelligence gathering platform to provide targeting information against naval or merchant shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
This mature drone system now in serialized production has many capabilities and consideration as to what its mission was is purely speculative with the current information available. What should be most notable is that Iran can still operate a drone of this size over water suspected to be the Persian Gulf, even if this particular drone was destroyed.
