Origin: Iran | Manufacturer: Qods Aviation Industries
Role: Medium-Altitude Long-Endurance (MALE) ISR/Strike
Overview:
From a family of UAVs dating back to the Iran-Iraq War of the 1980s, the Mohajer-6 represents the latest evolution in Iran’s Mohajer series of drones. Earlier models were primarily tactical observation platforms, the Mohajer-6 marks a shift towards multi-role combat capabilities allowing operators to utilize precision guided munitions. Developed by Iran’s Qods Aviation Industries, the Mohajer-6 made its first public debut in 2017 and become a centerpiece of Iranian short-range armed drone strategies. In a conflict without significant enemy air defenses, these drones offer intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities using EO/IR sensors in addition to precision attack capabilities.
The Mohajer-6 sits at the lower end of the MALE drone spectrum, more akin to the Bayraktar TB-2. The type is typically armed with two or four Qaem or Almas precision-guided munitions mounted on underwing hard points. It has been utilized by a both Iranian and proxy forces in addition to possibly being exported to Russia with service in the Russo-Ukraine War and possibly Venezuela. The Mohajer-6 UAV reflects Iran’s cost-effective drone strategies and can largely be supported by local industries. Affordable, exportable, and good enough to offer a credible armed ISR capability for export or regional proxy forces.
